OK to Take Him Out of Hide?

My snake (ok, my little boy's snake) does not come out 'til 10 or 11 pm. I'd like to have some handling time with him earlier in the evening. Is it ok to take him out of his hide for handling? Seems like that might disrupt his sense that the hide is a safe place.

no problem at all. i do it all the time. just make sure you allowed at least a week after you got him so he can settle in, and wait 2days after feedings

i usually end up having to get nellie out of her hide when i want to take her out. she is young, and still a bit shy so she stays in her hide a lot. i usually do something in the tank before i get her out just to let her know that i'm coming--change the water, check the empty hide for any feces, etc. once i get her out she is usually just fine.

I usually get my guys/girl out without them being out and about on their own. Like mlededee said, i usually do something in their cages to let them know i'm there first.

Same here. I always got to get Junior out of his hide. I start out messing with his water and check the empty hide for poo. Then I pic up the hide he's under and I start rubbing his back first then I'll get him out and I have no probems. When I put him back in he usually makes a round his tank then goes back into his hide.

Yeah, just make sure that you lift the hide up rather than reaching into the hide. If you reach in, she might feel threatened & strike at you.

I always hafta grab Hissy from her hides. I pick her up & she puffs out to stick herself inside her hide. It's cute. So i have to flip the hide over & grab her out. It isn't anything that bothers them too incredibly bad.

Ah....but my big male reticulated wannabe Ball python Apok will not hesitate to hiss and strike if I am stupid enough to pull him outa his hide when he is sleeping in it. I am of the opinion that I do not bother my BPs when they are in their hides...I think it stresses them and I just wait till they come out and prowl around and then I reach in and pull them out for some good old fashioned lovin'
