Handling a very young bp
Apparently, I am now the BP rescuer. My vet came to work the other day to find a sealed box on his door step and inside it was a baby BP. Lucky the poor thing didn't freeze to death b/c it was 17 degrees outside that morning! Anyway, he asked me if I would foster it (because he knows me and that I have rescued several reptiles including my older BP) and I told him I would just adopt it. So, it is a bit younger than I have ever had before. He/she (who knows at this point) is 66 grams (see, very tiny). My question is, how often should I handle it in an effort to get it acclimated to being handled? I don't want to over handle it and stress it out, but it is really a bit aggressive right now. He doesn't stay balled up, but he does stay ready to strike when he is held. So, any info would be welcome.
Thanks,
Lady Byrd

Oh my, glad he was found before the cold got to him. I would honestly let him get acclimatized in his new home for a couple days and if you have not fed him try feeding him and wait a couple more days before you decide to pick him up and such.
Hope this helps since I am still new here and have yet to get my BP. but that's what I would do if I were in your shoes.

Re: Handling a very young bp
Definitely just let it be for awhile. It's had a shock, hopefully it will survive for you.
Let it be for one week, no handling, just water replenishment and spot cleaning. Then offer food, for something that small I'd go mouse fuzzy or rat pup. After its eaten a few meals, then start handling.
Little guy's been through a lot, so just let him relax and be a snake in proper temps, and he'll warm up to you.

Well, we have had him for about 2 weeks now and he has already eaten for us. As a matter of fact, he ate seconds after he was offered his little pinkie. He's getting better about being handled, I just wanted to make sure I'm not handling him too much.

Well that's good news, glad he's eating hope he keeps up that appetite. Always a good idea to double-check.
