i went to wal-mart and picked one up...it was 10 bucks and i love the size of it..but i have some questions.
did you put it together? or just leave it as it was. Right now it has 3 layers and i was wondering if it was all necessary. it has the plastic layer, then a single sheet layer, then a fuzzy layer that surrounds the entire pad.
also, mine has 3 settings...if i'm putting it under a rubbermaid, which setting do you recommend?

The best way to determine temp settings is to test it out for yourself. It all depends on the temp of the room you are putting it in. Having said that i've never had to turn mine past medium. I also keep the fuzzy layer on the heating pad just in case. Good luck man!

I also keep the fabric cover on it but do not use the sheet as it's used to produce moist heat and it's not necessary for what we are using the pad for. As Carson said, testing it is the best way to determine what setting to use. I have never gone higher than medium either. Dunlaps are known to be wired backwards (low is high, high is low) so keep that in mind as well.
