Impulse - Jungle Carpet Python
I finally have my first snake (as of this Saturday) and am absolutely thrilled with him! He's a really lovely little 2013 Jungle Carpet Python, probably around 5-6 months of age. I've named him Impulse, but that might change later on if I think of something else.
I did make the newbie mistake of handling him several times on the first 2 days I had him - he's inquisitive outside of his enclosure, and my jacket pocket quickly became his favorite spot to hang out in. Inside his enclosure he's a little wary of hands but didn't try to bite at all. I've been able to change his water and readjust his hides with no problem at all. His feeding response is intense, though, but I'm very happy with that! Was worried that my mistake would cause him to be too stressed to eat, but he took his food like a champ. So I'll leave him alone until he's had a few more feedings and then I'll start handling him daily. I was prepared for a spastic piranha, but he's been very good so I hope he'll tame down even more with handling and age/growth! He's in a tiny tub for now (at the recommendation of a few JCP owners/breeders I spoke to, and his breeder), but I expect him to outgrow it soon and I'll be looking into a larger and better enclosure. For now though it seems to be working for him, and he's utilizing every part of the set up.
Really appreciate everyone on the board who helped me make the decision and offered their expertise. Hope you enjoy the pictures even though he's not a BP! Warning, it will be very picture heavy.
Just got home and out of his traveling container! I'm wearing gloves because it was freezing : )

His first night

The next day, all settled in his enclosure

Feeding night! Didn't catch any shots of him eating, but here's one of him with a hold on the fuzzy and scoping out his surroundings.

Thank you! It was definitely a relief for me when he responded to his food so immediately (and enthusiastically!). I felt pretty bad when I realized I might have been stressing him out, but luckily he seems to be a tough guy! He's just hanging out in his hide now digesting, but I'll make sure I wait until he's had a few more meals before handling again. I think I got a good one, though!

Thank you! I'm very excited to be an official snake owner now, and I already can tell that it's going to become an addiction Oh well, guess there's no use fighting it now LOL
Also, I think I am going to have to build a lightbox and do some more research on macro lenses! I really enjoyed taking pictures of him; he's quite photogenic.

Take him for lots of walks around the house. My "Butters" was a demon at that age. Scared the s&$% out of the whole family. Always stiking. I started walking him around the house. Think it gave him sensory overload. He soon quit trying to attack everyone and became a very fun curious snake. If he becomes :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r:y don't let it get you down. he will grow out of it if you just keep up with him. I love my Butters, he loves to be brought out at parties and mingle. Great snakes.
