    Questions about Web Design

I have a couple of questions regarding web design. First of all, I'm looking into getting my own domain and web-hosting service. Does anyone have a company to suggest? My only real qualification is that it has to have no outside ads and must be able to hold some pretty advanced coding because I want it to contain a database that has filters among other basic links/pages.

Secondly, I have some friends who have offered to set me up with a web page, but they have yet to really help me. So, are there some trusted companies/individuals that do good work with web design and database creation?

Hi there! I am extremely knowledgeable in web design and internet business. I have built and operated websites for years and I learned an absolute ton. Domain companines such as godaddy generally are all the same. Just be sure to compare prices but in the end they all provide the same service. I however would not take their recommendation on their OWN in house hosting. Usually its slow and expencive and lacks features. Domain companies I currently use are goddaddy and namecheap. Namecheap has a lot of promtions where they throw in free SSL certificates or domain privacy which are feeatures they can be expencive amongst other registrarts.

After using several hosts I have found one I absolutely love. It's called bluehost.com They have excellent service, very fast, and will have more features then you know what to do with. They have all the advanced plugins and scripts to run everything and have a real easy to use database design system using mysql.

I actuall have an affiliate account with them. If you like bluehost and chose to sign up. Sign up through my link and I will split the $65 commision with you once I get it. With that price you definetely wont find better.

I use chicago vps for hosting. Got a good reoccurring deal on a dedicated server, so I went with them. Left go daddy after their support of SOPA bill back in 2011. They have been good to me, no down time that wasn't my fault lol, but I'm not sure how their normal prices compare to others. Generally paying someone to do it will cost more than most of us are willing to spend. So I would try to get your friends to help you out and try to learn what you can. Getting your own server is ideal if someone can set it up for you, then your code can be as advanced as it needs to be. I run debian on mine. mysql for database. but there are other options, see what your friends are familiar with.

    Re: Questions about Web Design

My friend is a web designer as her day job. I'm just getting really tired of waiting around for it. I was supposed to have a website in full working order by November 1st to market my babies on. However, I still don't have a website built and I've been holding off on a domain name so I don't pay for it and it never get used.

A dedicated server is probably WAY overkill than what the OP needs. 6.50 a month with a dedicated IP is a good deal but what kind of features and admin panel does it have? I'm curious. You only need a dedicated IP if you want SSL certs

You can get a domain name for under 10 bucks a year.

    Re: Questions about Web Design

I know the domain name isn't expensive, but the idea of just wasting $10 doesn't appeal to me at all. I've also been hesitant because she was going to use a new hosting service so she can add my website into her portfolio.

How complcated are you trying to make your website? This might not be the most professional choice but you can get hosting through go daddy which offers a website building tools to create a decently simple website. Unless you're looking for a shopping basket, this should work perfectly.

The biggest thing will be the database. I want it to list all my available animals and their info in a box. I want customers to be able to filter by age, gender, year, weight, etc as well as have a sort function.

I'm not sure you'd be able to do that through go-daddy but you can probably call them and ask. You might be surprised.

Doesn't have to be a dedicated server, only reason I have one is because it's 40 bucks a year for me, but that was a deal a couple years back. I just figure run your own software and you can have any feature you want. I would still talk with the person who is going to actually set up and build the site and see what they are familiar with.
