    Finally got another boa

Well after years of not having a boa in my collection I had to fill the void. I saw this little one at a pet store and after it tried to give me two kisses on the nose ( it's a little feisty ) I decided that I couldn't leave it behind. I'm not 100% sure if it's a male or female. I'm not great at popping ( female I think ) and the guy at the pet store said he couldn't sex it. Doesn't really matter as I don't have any plans on breeding boas as of right now. While I love my ball pythons my collection has just not seemed complete without a boa in it. They bring a personality that a BP just can't seem to match. It's been awhile since I had a boa so just to brush up: it's in a quarantine tub right now so a pretty basic setup, paper towel substrate, water bowl, and hide, cool side is staying 78-79 and the hot spot 88-89. Does that sound about right?

Very cool!. I agree the little royals are nice, but there is something about boas.

Sounds good on the temps especially if Kali (Evenstar) gave you the thumbs up. She does really well with slightly cooler temps, and I run ambients at 80-81 and warm side 90-92 I do use night drops though.

In another week I'll be dropping ambient to 78-79 and warm side will be 88-89.

Sounds like you are dialed in!

The temptation to hold that snake and handle it will be great!!

    Have fun.

Thanks everyone. I can't believe how excited I am about this little one. I guess I missed having a boa more than I thought I did.

I know what you mean. I've been fighting the urge to hold it all day.

Today was feeding day and I had forgotten about a boa's feeding response. She was in her hide and I opened the tub and started lowering the rat down. She caught the scent of the rat and her head immediately shot out. Poor little rat didn't have a chance, she had it before I could even close the tub. What a welcomed sight that was, after 4 years of having nothing but ball pythons and their picky eating habits. Sometimes I think I should just trade all my ball pythons for boas. I fed them today also and only 6 out of 18 ate.

HA HA!!! I just hinted to my son that we trade his royal for a boa or a carpet. She hasn't eaten since September. This hunger strike could rival and/or pass last year's 6 month shutdown.

He won't have any of it though so she'll be our picky snake, and yeah,,,, those boas are pretty nuts when it's time to eat. My guy stays "turned on" for about a day after his meal. The only time I've ever been bitten was when I tried to remove the news print I cover the substrate with after he had eaten.

    Lesson learned LOL!

I'm pretty excited for you because I know how cool the feeling is!!

They climb and do all kids of cool stuff!

I have one that only eats in July and August for the past 2 years. The others usually only go on a 1 or 2 week strike, but I guess it's the time of year because all of mine over 800 grams have been off food for the last month (some a little longer). Most of them eat F/T and that's a lot of wasted rats. I've never owned a boa that skipped more than 1 meal and that was when they were shedding. And you're right they do a lot more stuff than BP.
