ooh! BUTTER WALLS! TABOO SUBJECT! PRO-HYBRID
In the future( 2+ years) im planning to create, wait for it...BUTTER WALLS! :-) what I'm wondering is: Do ball pythons have a set number of eggs from when they folliculate(?)? If so seeing as hybrid have higher slug rates, if I were to breed my butter female to a woma male and he fertilizes the eggs, if I were to also breed her to a ball python male could he fertilize the eggs that otherwise would have been slugs, giving me a split clutch of walls and balls with little to no slugs?

Doing this would give you the chance of producing regular balls and hybrids, correct?
So all the offspring have the odds of being either but would it be easy to tell? I mean do all hybrids look different in pattern, color, build? Is it possible for you to have a hybrid that looks more ball than woma?
I dont see why you would want to have a mixed clutch like this. Seems like a good way to really get some confusing clutches that would need to be very carefully sold with the explanation that the buyer may not be getting what they think.
I'm just thinking out loud. I have not done much reading up on hybrids. Am I close in my understanding of how it could work?

It would produce both balls and hybrids but given the shape of the wall hybrids and the pure balls it would be easy to tell which is which and if any are iffy I'll just keep them. Theres alsothe matter of the ball python sire's morph which could also help in "sniffing out" the pures as opposed to the hybrids. The walls are also more striped so as long as neither of the parents are that striped it will make it easier to tell to. The part about making it a mixed clutch is to reduce the slugging rates and produce more babies. One again, all that are not definitely one or the other will stay with me or someone I know well that understands not to breed it and that it may be a hybrid. The not breeding is to ensure that no 1/4 woma 3/4 balls are sold as pure balls or anything like that, assuming walls are viable. For the most part hybrids are pretty obvious, especially with things like this. With hybrids like angry balls, however, they could easily be sold as a new morph and no one would even know it unless it looked more ball-ish but had the beaded scales or the other way around. But walls look so much unlike a pure ball that there's really not much of a risk of misidentifing it as anything other than a wall. And one egg can't be double sired.

Gosh, I've seen pics of walls with pits before. In fact, I've seen them since the last time this was brought up.
What's important to note, even woma pythons have pits. They're just really, really reduced.
Edit: This may not been the pic, but this does seem to have one pair of pits. http://www.spitfirereptiles.com/sphp...4-0901.med.jpg

Hmm... Either way the pits are definately not as defined as a ball's.

No, no they're not. But pits they are, nonetheless.
