First feeding question

Oliver went into his hide this afternoon and hasn't come out - which I know is fine - he's settling in. As a matter of fact, He seems to explore in the morning and early afternoon, and then goes in his hide later in the day.

Anyway, Tomorrow he's supposed to be fed - he gets 3 fuzzies, according to the store that I bought him from. However, he's definitely in a shedding cycle and his eyes this morning were a little cloudy. I've read that feeding during the beginning of a shed can be difficult, and even avoided if he can't see.

So....should I try to feed Oliver tomorrow, or wait a few more days until he's out of the acute shed stage? I don't want to mess up his schedule, but Maybe feeding him tomorrow isn't a good idea? What do you think? And can I refreeze the mice if he doesn't eat? Thanks! Pamela

I had a little male that would never feed while shedding. On the other hand I had a female that would take food every time (in two years she never turned down a meal). It really depends on the snake. I would offer one just to see. Every BP can be a little different

PS. I have never tried refreezing but I have put one in the fridge to try again the next day.

Some eat and some don't. My guys won't eat while there blue/ cloudy eyes,so I leave them be..let them shed out then when they have 100% shed,I feed them.

Also I would try to feed him just one size prey at a time and from your pic,pinks are to small..I prefer to feed my guy every 4-5 days and to feed him one appropriate sized meal. Then again I have a store near me,where I can get anything I need when it comes to feeders..but if I was u,I'd feed him a hopper or two instead of 3 pinkies.imo

Yes, I was wondering why several small fuzzies every 3 days instead of a larger size mouse every 5. Maybe he's not accepting a larger size yet. I'll see what happens tomorrow and let you know!

If he is eating he is eating..I bought a small rat 2 weeks ago as opposed to the avg weanling I buy,this thing was huge compared to my snake he sized it up for 20 mins before making the kill,cane this rat was almost like twice the girth of my snakes fattest part of his body..either way he made the kill and swallowed it and digested it fully within 3 days,which was awesome,but u should be buying prey that is the same size as the biggest part of his body,even slightly larger is all good. Idc rather feed every 5 days then multiples lies every 3 days,just seems a hassle. My little guy is about 85 grams now and is eating rat pups..never fed him pinkies,started him on one mouse hopper at a time,then after a few feeding he grew a bit and I went right to rat pups

Oliver ate all three of his fuzzy mousies! My hungry little man...... I'll feed him the remaining 3 fuzzies on Tuesday, and then buy the Hopper size.

You can try feeding him rat pups. That way you feed him just one meal. Plus the faster you switch him to rats the better.

Rats - ewwwww....... Lol I'm not squeamish about mice, but rats are gross, lol. I'm going to try small mice first..... We'll get to rats soon enough :-)

The quicker you can get him on rats the better and easier it will be. You will have to get him on rats at some point, so you should just try to get him on them.

You'll definitely be doing yourself a favor by switching him to rats as soon as you can.
Ideally, he should be eating one prey item as big as the widest part of his body every 5 days or so, that way he isn't stressed from so many feedings.

I know everyone has their cute animal preferences. ;D and that is 100% okay.
but speaking as someone who has kept both mice and rats as pets, I have to say that the hygiene and smell of rats are, by far, my favorite between the two.
