Spastic male breeder
I have a male Pastel Genetic Stripe that has been breeding with two different Het females without issue. Twice now, I have place him with a third Pastel female and both times he has gone spastic – flipping and flopping around, to the point of actually busting the latch off the plastic tub they were in. I know the Pastel is a female and willing to breed because she has since been locking up with my male Pastel. The female Pastel was never with another male before the Genetic Stripe.
Has anyone experienced a similar ‘personality’ clash when pairing their snakes together?
Thanks - Andy

I would double check the sex on your "female" Pastel. I bet its a male!

It's probably a male.
Even if they end up locked, sometimes they will lock with other males as a dominance thing. I'd get the 'female' probed.

My thoughts exactly! I took her to a reptile expo and had her popped by a very well known breeder that I trust and he determined her to be female as well. I didn't probe her or have her probed though. If she lays eggs, I guess she'll prove herself. She has been locked with the Pastel male now for over 12 hours, so I'm leaning towards her being a girl.
I may put the Genetic Stripe male with a fourth proven female - just to see his reaction. I won't let them breed though because I don't need a bunch of hets. The only other proven female I have is a het pied.
I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this sort of behavior.

It's not uncommon for males and females to fight...

Only when I tried to pair my pin with my "female" pastel that's not a female.
Needless to say the 2500g pin had his way with a then 1500g pastel boy.

I have experienced that on multiple occasions...happened with confirmed males and females, so sometimes they're just not in the mood...
edit: or they just like it rough...

My female Cinnamon put up a hell of a fight against my male pastel last night. Went on for a half hour or so. Now they're as thick as thieves. Haha

I've tried this pairing twice now. Both times - the same thing. I’m thinking the male is reacting to being with another snake he doesn’t know and is simply trying to get away. Maybe once he learns she isn’t going to hurt him, he will settle down. The female doesn’t seem to be bothered and just gets out of the way.
The female is now going into shed, so it may be too late for this pairing now anyway.
