Mites!!
My red tail has mites, I have soaked him, took everything out, used provent a mite, replaced his bedding, then just repeated the process 2 weeks later. Should this do the trick? I'm very worried about the provent a mite because the main ingredient is permethrin.

Re: Mites!!
Use paper towels instead of aspen or cypress as bedding, and treat the clean ones with the PAM and let them try every time you have to replace soiled ones with new ones. The danged mites find too many hiding places in the wood substrates.

An alternative to PAM is Reptile Spray from Reptile Basics. Email or call Rich and he'll be happy to talk to you about it. This is an all-natural substitute for PAM and it really works. It is safe enough that you can spray it directly on your snake.
Thoroughly spay him down, head and all, and place him in a separate tub while you take care of his enclosure. Very carefully remove all the substrate and discard (outside, not just in your trash, mites travel). Spray down the snake's enclosure, inside and out, being careful to get inside any and all crevices. Wash his water bowl in the dishwasher and use the Reptile Spray to wipe down any hide boxes, etc. Allow the cage to dry, put in paper towels instead of aspen, etc, and put your snake back in. I would repeat this in 2 more weeks in case you happen to miss any eggs, but the Spray destroys the exoskeleton of the insect and dissolves the eggs. You should be alright after the second treatment.
BUT you DO need to treat ALL you snakes in the same manner!! If one snake has mites, chances are they all do or will.
