ok, my Royal was due a feed today, his 1st with me... so I held the pup in front of him and he struck, it fell out of the tongs and that was it!! not interested!! any advice about what my next step should be? how long before I try again? should I wait until he is actively looking around the viv, or wait until next week?

Leave the rodent in his tank with him overnight. Put it by his hide. Some snakes seem to want privacy in the dark to eat. It may be gone tomorrow morning when you check.

If it's there in the morning, take it out and toss it. Try again in anywhere from 3 or 4 days to a week.

If any of mine refuse food i wait until the next week to try to feed again. As long as they are not losing alot of weight its not an issue

Are you feeding Rat Pups? Maybe he has been eating Mice. I have been having one hell of a time getting mine to eat Rat Pups. Normally I feed on Friday but they all refuse the Rat Pups, usually by Sunday I give in to them and go to Petco and get them Adult Mice. They all eat then, just don't want no part of Rat Pups. I bought the Rat Pups online and it's really irritating that they are wasting them.

Did you try wiggling the food in front of your snake afterwards to try to regain its interest? Holding the food under a heat lamp can also give it that extra warmth to attract their attention.

well, as a last resort I placed the pups on some kitchen roll near his hide... I just returned to remove them and accept defeat, and hang on! one of 'em has gone!! result!
1st feed done....... relief!
