Weight question!

Hi everyone,

I got a female bumble bee on July the 6th weighing only 56 grams. She feeds every time I offer, even in deep shed with blue eyes. I have been feeding 20% of her weight feeders (mice) every 7 days and she just accepted F/T small rats last weekend. Yesterday I weighted her and she weighs 296 grams. Do you guys think she is doing ok and gaining weight as she should? Some dude told me she should be weighing at least 500 grams.

I have a pinstripe female I got in July who was 64 grams. She's now about 300 grams on a similar feeding schedule. So I think your bee is fine.

I think 500 grams sounds like a lot in a short period of time. But then again, I got my BP at 116g and (two months later) he's around 160-180 grams, and I feed every 5-6 days at 10-15% body weight.

Personally I think you are doing great no need to super-feed (or whatever that term is).

Your snake sounds fine. Though 20% weight of feeders sound a little bit much. Typically 10-15% is recommend for babies and juvies. Then lowered even more once the snake is older and larger.

And it is possible for some ball pythons to grow 100g a month(or 500g in 5 months). My largest female did when she was a baby. All snakes grow at their own rate. But in general, a consistent eater on appropriate sized prey typically grow an average of 50-100 g a month.

As long as your little guy is a good body weight and not obese, you're fine.

This is how I've been feeding my snakes since I started (20%). Can't remember who recomended this to me but I believe it works fine. They're not obese and look healthy. I agree with the fact that every snake grows at it's own rate. Thanks for the response

I have a few females I hatched july/aug that are well over 500gm. The pig award goes the my male coral glow. Hatched 7/14 and weighed 688g saturday, a day after eating. He will be hitting the ladies very soon.

They all grow at different rates. Currently I have two albino girls that are about a week apart in age, one is about 400g and the other is 900g.
As long as they are eating don't worry so much about the weight.
