    BP feeding issues

So I tried to feed the ball python that I got last week f/t hoppers, what I didn't realize is when I bought him was he was raised on live. Today I tried to feed him, without any methods, no strikes. I used chicken broth a little bit after and he struck 3 times. Should I try leaving one in front of his hide that I dipped in chicken broth? He seemed like he was wanting it. It wasn't aggression I don't think either cause I picked him right up and he didn't do a thing.

Leave it in the door to his hide overnight and leave him alone, if he hasn't eaten it by the morning take it out and discard. Try again next week

That method has worked for me once

    BP feeding issues

I had the same problem you had, I bought a snake and didn't know he was fed live so I had to convert him over since there are no places to buy live feeders where I am. Just make sure you keep your feeding attempts weekly so you don't stress him out by trying to feed him to many times. It took mine a month to catch on but after that he hasn't missed a meal since and he eats f/t even when he's deep in shed. So hopefully he will catch on! You just have to be persistent

I had a similar problem,my little guy wouldn't eat FT no matter what I did and I tried leaving it in the tank,in his hide, him in a box with it,I smashed the head and he never took, all he will take is live mice.. I tried a live pinky rat ( this was my third attempt at rats with him)and he wanted nothing to do with it,put in a hopper mouse he took it in seconds. Now I did put the pinky rat back in before I went to bed, left it at his hide opening off to the side a bit..just got home from work and no rat pinky anywhere. So you may be stuck just having to feed live. It no big deal really. Just go with it.. Plus I also like feeding them live, they always seem to hunt it down, gives them the feel there in the wild.

I just don't have any petstores near that sell live. I've been looking ob craigslist and stuff to find live feeder mice, its not easy. Contacted that guy that I bought it from and he said it might be because I'm feeding him mice instead of rat pups. :/

Honestly, and I'm in no way being mean here... I would seriously rehome him. It would be best for both you and the snake. By now he should be on adult rats not rat pups. If you can't get the appropriate food rehoming is best

You don't happen to be from NY are you? Cause I've got 2 places u can get any size rat or mouse
. There has to be places for u to get feeders, even if you have to travel 45mins to an hour...I'm fortunate,I have a spot about 5-10 mins away...

I drive an hour one way once a week to get the pinkies for hognose. I know it's not easy for some people to do... but I brought this animal into my care and I'm prepared to do what I need to do for that animal.
Look for mom and pop type stores, look in nearby towns/cities.

How do you know its eating adult rats? I found a store. First week feeding him. He 140g, that's obviously not big enough for adult rats....

I'm saying by now, if you've had him a year, he is at the minimum one year old, and should be big enough to eat small adult rats.
I didn't say he's big enough for rats, I said he SHOULD be big enough for adult rats.
