Just Set-Up Tubs And Can't Get Temps Up!

Hey guys so I switched to tubs today and I have everything set up but the ambient temp wont go higher than 75. Do I need to heat my room up or is there a trick to getting it up? Thanks

Probably will need to add some heat to the room. What is the surface temp reading? What is the tstat set to?

I hope your snakes are not in there yet. You need to get it dialed in first.

How big is your heat source under the tubs? I built my rack with 41 qt tubs, fully enclosed walls, and designed to go in a bedroom at normal room temperature. I used THG heat tape cut into 12"X15" pieces to ensure a LARGE surface area where the heat emits from to make sure ambient temps stay up. And it does so very well. You really wont know how your rack will do until you get that thermostat in. If after that you are still low on the ambient/cool side of the tubs you can try adding a curtain of thick cloth or a door of some kind on the front of the rack to hold in ambient heat. I planned for a such a modification, but luckily I didn't need it.

Re: Just Set-Up Tubs And Can't Get Temps Up!

My snake room has a window that is badly insulated. When it is 20 degrees outside it makes my snake room about 60-65 while the rest of the house is set at 70.

    Here is what i did

The best thing you can do is buy a good space heater which has a digital setting to set the temp where you want it. The last thing you want to do is buy a cheaper one without this option. I got a ceramic heater at Walmart on sale for $80 (usually $100). Always read instructions on these as they can be a fire hazard if used improperly.

I also got a window insulation set (plastic and 2 sided tape) for around 5 bucks. Finish it off with a blow dryer.

The last thing I did was buy a good humidifier. It holds about 3 gallons . I configured the humidifier to keep the room at about 65% humidity. IMO this is a must have because space heaters really kill humidity.

I keep that room set to 75 which in turn keeps the cold end of my racks at around 80-82. Depending on your rack heat and tub setup this may be different for you.
