Heating with EcoEarth

Hello,

I currently use Eco Earth in my tank because the heat lamp killed the humidity when I used a drier substrate. Is it safe to put an under tank heater on if I keep the Eco Earth moist? Also, will the Eco Earth make the under tank heater pointless? I'm curious if the heat will make it through enough to make a difference.

An under tank heater is not made pointless by a new substrate. If you already have a heat lamp producing solid temps then a heat pad is unnecessary in my experience. If you are using just plain eco-earth then just make sure you let dry well before reapplying moisture as I have found it to mold quickly...I prevent this and maintain relatively constant humidity by adding a small top layer of cypress mulch...it has a natural pH that prevents fungal growth. Hope that helps.

As long as the UTH is on the outside of the tank and regulated by a thermostat it will be fine.

Substrate layers can effect UTH's. For a UTH to work properly the substrate layer must think, ½" thick or less.

I use ecoearth in tubs with heatpads. They normally burrow down into the substrate anyway to hide better. They seem to like it and the top layer is about 89 degrees with the temp gun reading. Probe layin under them normally read between 92 to 94.

I used eco earth with my tank setup... I loved it. You can use it with a controlled uth.
