Unhappy 2 new bps, 1 bad eater!

    Hello all!

I posted a while back in an introductory post but I am happy to say I am a happy herp owner, and in that collection I have two ball pythons.

One, a het pied female I purchased at the Sacramento Reptile show and another, a het pied male I purchased from a breeder online. I recently had a scare with the male as he escaped his enclosure after feeding (he is a great eater!) but I found him this evening in my book shelves, ironically behind my Good Snakekeeping book. Now that he is tucked away in his viv with a secured top which I triple checked, I draw my concerns to the female.

I have had the female for a month now and was told she was fed right before the show. I put her in a 20 gallon viv with a large waterbowl, two hides (one that she loves I made out of a wooden tissue box), and her temps are consistently good. 85-91 on the warm side and about 70-75 on the cool side. She is very active and curious, allowing me to pick her up and she explores rather than balling up like she did when I first got her.

My problem is, she does not eat. I have been trying to feed her F/T fuzzies and pinkies. I tried to feed her a week after I purchased her and she showed no interest. I gave her a two week break and tried again, this time leaving the mouse in with her and she didn't go for it. I gave her another week and this time put it in her favorite hide, hoping she would want to eat in privacy, but after two days the mouse was still there.

I am at my wits end as what to do. She seems very healthy otherwise, and it just frustrates me. My other snakes are very good eaters and I realize things are different from snake to snake. Seeing that the boy ball python I have is a very good eater, I just hope there is nothing wrong with her.

What was the previous owner feeding her? Was is Live? If so that could be the problem. Have you tried to offer her Live? How old is she and how big?

Have you tried live yet? Maybe she wasn't on frozen thawed? Usually they get back on feed if they get fed live though.

Maybe (depending on her size) the prey is too small? Pinky mice are too small for any bp. And yeh majority of breeders I've found feed live so that may be the problem

Also wouldn't let the cool side go below 75. 70 is really low.

When I purchased the girl, the breeder insisted he only fed F/T mice.
I havent weighed her yet, but she is about 2 months old.

At 2 months pinkies are way to small. Fuzzies are even too small... get frozen hoppers if you can, if not small adult mice and I bet she'll eat
