"This time of year"? Health question as well
Hi, I'm new to ball pythons & I've started to see around on some forums of people talking about "this time of year". What do they mean? Also, could that be why my 4ft male is acting funny? I've had him since may & he was never very active. I got a bigger tank for him & he started eating great & was shedding all the time. I moved him to an even bigger tank in September to give the old one to my corn snake. Now, frost won't eat. He has been in there over a month now & I'm getting worried. Also, since being in the new tank 40gal breeder) he has been SUPER active. In his old tank he never really came out of his hide box & now he is out & about all the time, especially when the reptifogger turns on, he will sit right underneath it. I'm pretty sure him being so active means he is happy right? So should I be worried about him not eating or just give it a couple more weeks & try feeding him again?

"This time of year" probably refers to breeding season...when love is in the air...

A pic of your setup and details on temps and humidity would help, a happy ball is a hidden ball so if he is doing a lot of roaming there could be an issue with his husbandry or the new tank is too big for him to feel comfortable

Being active and going off feed is typical during breeding season. Unless he's already skinny he should be fine.

Ok thanks everyone. I'm not gonna worry so much Also, I forgot to mention that when he is being really active it's at dusk & all night. During the day he hangs out in his warm hide. I can't get a good pic of my set up but I have this: 40 gal breeder tank with screen top half covered by a towel. A 75 watt black light (from petco) to raise the ambient temp on the cool side to 80 that is on all the time. A hide box on the cool side. A reptifogger on the warm side that runs on a timer for 15 mins every hour (the air in my house is super dry & frost kept having bad sheds till I got it) & a large stone water bowl on top of the warm hide to hold it in place. The warm hide is a small plastic litter box with a hole cut in it, it is right on top of a UTH. I use a digital thermometer to measure the substrate temp & have the UTH on a dimmer because otherwise it gets way too hot. I keep his warm hide at around 90 (which doesn't seem warm to my hand at all, but I guess since my body temp is at 98 is why I don't feel the warmth?). Sorry I keep posting so long lol

I would not put the water bowl on top of the hide.
My Lex likes to move her hide with her lol.
90 won't seems all to warm to your hand (unless you have cold hands like me )
