    Can I use small animal aspen

    Can I use small animal aspen shavings for my ball python ? I found cheap bags at pet smart and i saw that they use it for their bp's

    I use the same stuff. Been doing it for years never had problems. The only difference is it is chips not shredded. It's a lot cheaper also. Like $12 for the large bag.

    My nieces bp had a "shard" of aspen pierce its mouth, I have never used it since...

    I have not seen it mold. As far as it getting in their mouth I have not had a problem with it. If I notice a decent size I usually try to pull it out while they are eating.

    I have not seen it mould either, but yes unless you pull it out it can be an issue, like giant splinters, a young/shy snake wont like you poking in it's mouth pulling out substrate whilst feeding, and could leave the prey.
