Discouraging!

I have hides and all that, and I really want to stay away from tubs. I also have a 100w bulb.
Humidity is staying around 55-62
And temperature doesn't differ much from side to side. 85 on one and probably 75 on the other.


Can someone give me the rundown of the things I've been pointed towards.
IE CHE's, thermostats, digital and non analog thermometers.

If someone could just link me the things I need.
I've been searching for days and can't seem to find my answers, as you all use tubs.

For my glass tanks I use 50W red bulb, digital thermometers from Petsmart, and this thermostat from Amazon

Which has dropped in price, by the way! Almost by half I might up the wattage to a 75W or 100W when I upgrade my ball python to a larger tank. He's in a 15 gal right now.
With my UTH set at 89F it ranges from 86.5-91.5F on crazy days, but usually 88-90.5F.

You may have to tinker with things as well; trial and error. I know that's not the answer you're looking for, but everything is different for everyone - what your home's ambiet air temp is will change over the seasons, which may mean you will need different wattage bulbs for different times, regardless of if it's a CHE or red/black bulb.

You will find a rhythm, don't stress too much. Research is key, and you're on it.

Thank you very much! I do appreciate it.
I'm just stressing out because I do want a ball python, but it's got to be PERFECT. Just the way I am. haha.
And what would you suggest when it comes to bulbs then?

Like I said, I use a 50W red bulb for my 15 gal. tank with a dome. The air in my home is usually 75/76F, so that bumps up Beau's air to ~80F, where it should be. You do NOT want that air to drop below 75F for BPs! That can cause respiratory illness, as well as other issues.

Definitely get your UTH and thermostat and set those up, and get a digital thermometer or two (if you don't already have two, one for both the wamr side and cool side) and see where it stands. You can also buy thermo spot guns, but that can be pricey. I got one from a reptile store for $35.
From there you can add in a bulb or CHE - whichever you prefer, that is up to you.
Like i said, trial and error. It's better to set up ahead of time like you have been, and then go out and buy more things after testing, than buying more than you need right off the start and never using it.

I'd definitely recommend getting a temp gun. They aren't too expensive if you go to a home depot or lowes, about 20 bucks. For general temps, I use an Accurite thermometer from Walmart. Like everyone's said, you're going to need to tweak things to get them perfect. Your ambient temps will determine what type of bulb you use. I like CHE because my enclosure is in my bedroom, and the red bulbs are kind of annoying IMO. I started off with a 100 watt, had to go down to a 75 watt because that was too hot. So just find what works best for you
