Mites? I have some questions.
No my python has no signs of any issues.. But I've avoided using really any substrate /bedding due to I hear some can create mites...I hear wood in an enclosure can create mites..due to that, I use aspen bedding. And avoid having anything like live plants or wood in my tank due to that. Plus don't wanna use live plants due to bugs, don't need them in my tank on my snake or in my apt
I'm assuming drift wood is safe? Being it's treated wood.. How about accessories made of cork?
I'm all new to this,so bare with me. I'm just going by what I have heard basically.
Thnx

Wood mites are harmless. You can bake substrate/wood in the oven to kill mites and eggs if you're really worried. But you probably don't have to sorry about it.
You can use reptile mite killer like Provent-a-mite or Nix Lice killer to treat bedding, decorations, and plants. (not the animals themselves).
Reptile mites don't pop out of nowhere. They're carried or transferred by something. Even you can carry it on yourself when you go to shows or pet stores. But reptile mites won't live long without a reptile host.
Just pretreat all new additions for mites in quarantine. And you most likely won't get mites.

the life cycle of reptile mites is bound to reptiles.
No animals with the complexity of a reptile mite can ever come from nothing, it takes millions of years of evolution.
What do you think about the theory of evolution by natural selection?

Drift wood should be fine. You can bake it in the oven for 15 minutes if you're paranoid.

Re: Mites? I have some questions.
You don't have to worry about your cats. The reptile mites are species specific and can only survive on reptiles. If they somehow get to your cat, they'll just die.
Its always good to have a can of mite killer on hand though.

Provent-a-mite is what I use.
Many people have used Nix lice treatment from your local pharmacy with similar success.

You should first identify reptile mites and be sure that thats what you are dealing with before you start treating it.
Can you rule out springtails? (these are harmles/neutral and in some cases even beneficial).
The Big Bang almost certainly (beyond reasonable doubt) happened 13.7 billion years ago. If you disagree, send me a PM.
Evolution is a fact, evolutionary theory explains why it happens and provides four different lines of evidence that coalesce to show that evolution is a fact. If you disagree, send me a PM.
One third of the global economy relies on technology that is based on quantum mechanics, especially quantum electrodynamics (electron-photon or electron-electron interactions). If you disagree, send me a PM.
Time Dilation is real, it is so real that all clocks if they are precise enough can measure it, and GPS could not possibly work without it. If you disagree, send me a PM.
The 4 philosophically most important aspects of modern science are: Evolutionary theory, Cosmology, Quantum mechanics, and Einsteins theory of general relativity. Understand these to get a grip of reality.
