I was just wondering how soon after the animal defecates should you bring the feces to the vet to be checked for parasites? Can the feces be a day old two days, or does it have to be just released? Also, about how much does it cost on average to have the feces checked?

It would be preferable to have them as fresh as possible so they can check for parasites that might be there when the poo is fresh and not there when it's old (ie: Giardia- a protozoa). If they go to the bathroom on the weekend, let's say Saturday, put the poo in a plastic baggy or similar container and put it in the fridge, but make sure you get it to the vet ASAP. I'm lucky enough that I can check animal's fecals for free, but I am pretty sure it's around $10-$20(maybe cheaper). Maybe you could get in good with a vet or something and get a discount. But anyway... To the point. The fresher the better, and right out of the hiney is best. :-D

Vets charge for the check up, any tests they might do, and any medications. It could cost up to $100. I have paid over that for one of my rescued BP's.
    Thanks,

You'll have to call the Vet and ask them, they'll tell you.

Well my snake defecated for the second or third time in six days along with regurgitating the mouse so I'm assuming it has parasites. Just curious should I just get the meds for parasites and treat it for parasites and just skip going to the vet cause from what everyone on here has told me it sounds like I have parasites. And considering the first one I bought from her did the same thing (regurgitate) and she kept them in the same cage it probably has parasites.

The thing is, you couldn't just buy the meds for parasites because who knows WHAT he could have. You might buy something that treats a parasite totally different from what he might have, thus not ending the problem. There are so many possible parasites that he could have, tapeworms, roundworms, whipworms... Fun stuff... A vet check-up is in order so they can figure out what is causing this. As my teacher says "We don't have microscopic eyes." If you can find someone who can do a fecal on the snake, get the dosage amount of medication you would need, ask them how long the snake needs to be on the meds, and go find a feed store that sells that type of medication. It might be made for Cows/Horses, but it's all the same darned stuff.

For tapeworms, they will probably give you Droncit/Drontal.
For Roundworms, whipworms, they will probably give you pyrantel pamoate. That's the drug's name, not the name the vet will call it(usually).
But do take him to the vet, it could be something deeper and more serious than parasites, and it could save the life of your BP. It's the best thing you could do for him even though it can be a little expensive.

*I guess that's what we get ourselves into when we add the little guys/girls as our family members?*

    Good Luck

I took my bp's stool sample in and it was 18.00
He had to be treated so I went in and picked up the meds and gave them to him. The meds cost around 20 or 25.00.
Since yours is also bringing back up his food and and passing stools so much I would take him in along w/ the stool sample.
But normally you can just drop off stool and if positive pick up meds and never have to bring him in to the vet.
I am actually dropping off a stool sample to my vet this morning just to double check and make sure they are all gone.
I would get your bp to the vet rather soon if you could. Good luck.
