Purchasing baby ball python, need help determining how to build a custom enclosure?!
Hello everybody, I will be purchasing my first ball python hopefully this Friday. I have done extensive research on these beautiful creatures, and I really do not want to house my baby BP in a glass tank (this isn't a show animal, I have been housing reptiles for years now but not yet a snake, they are my companions). My boyfriend and I are looking to construct our own "rack" system... for one BP? Is this possible? I was thinking about using materials such as PVC and a Rubbermaid tub.
If anyone has any advice, questions, direction they can give me it would be greatly appreciated.

One of my quarantine enclosures is a single tub 'rack'. I really like having a single level enclosure because it's easy to move and is convenient.
It's basically a box built around the tub(28qts). The heat(6 inch THG heat tape) is in the back and the tub slides out like a normal rack would.
Mine is made from 1/2 inch wood, but PVC would be really nice.

Re: Purchasing baby ball python, need help determining how to build a custom enclosur
A rack system is a great and inexpensive way to go, but there are also other custom options that offer more of an aesthetic appeal to your BP's habitat. For instance, my fiancé and I are converting a 30.00 wardrobe we bought from Goodwill into an 84 gallon (LxWxH) enclosure. It will have three tiers one elevated cool zone and a large hot zone. We sealed the interior and caulked the seams, drilled for vents and wired in the infrared lighting. I will get pics when I get home, but in all it costs less than 500.00 and is very appealing. Most of what we used we borrowed or already had from previous reptiles. This is also my first BP, I was keeping other reptiles before. I have also seen gun cases, entertainment centers, armoirs, ottomans, and many other household items converted. It's a great way to repurpose old furniture Good Luck!
