sleeping on top of hide?
I just brought home a brand new 2 month old bp, I have her in a 32qt tub, aspen substrate, fit with a heat mat with a thermostat set to 85°, she was very active the first night, checking out her hides, water dish and etc, and I didn't think too much of it, but today she was just as active, and when she wasn't roaming she had wedged herself on top of her warm hide, which because of the low tub lid, is touching the lid. I though this behavior was sort of weird, do you think maybe the tub is too hot? Or is that normal, and she feels more secure with the lid pressing against her? Sorry for the noobish question, I've never kept a bp in a tub before...

As long as your temps are right I wouldn't worry about it. When I got my Leo hatchling she would curl up next to her hide, behind it, or on top of it. After a week or two she figured out that going in it was a better idea.

What is the ambient temperature in the enclosure? Is it warmer or cooler on top of the hide compared to directly above the UTH, and compared to the cool side of the enclosure? Is there any sunlight on the tub?
Temps may have nothing to do with anything too, and she could just like hanging out there.

There's no direct sunlight as I live in a basement apartment, the ambient temp outside the tank is around 73-75, I'm guessing that above the hide its probably equivilant to the cold side temp, or like a midway point? I'm waiting for a new probe thermometer to come in the mail. Its not that she doesn't go inside the hide, I've seen her in there, she just seems to prefer the top? I'm hoping she's just a weirdo not uncomfortable haha.

She's probably just being a snake, which is to say, who the heck knows and she's probably fine.

How are you checking your temperatures?

Currently I don't have a thermometer in her tank (problem I know) I'm waiting for my package from amazon haha. The thermostat probe is the only way I'm monitoring the UTH. I know the external temp in my house cause that's how the house thermostat is set, and it fluctuates between 73 and 75 sometimes as low as 70 at night and when its cold.

How big is the hide? If it's too large she may just feel better squished in up top.

Mine did that all the time, I figured it was because he liked it up there but it turned out he didn't like his warm hide...one was a log and one was a cave so I swapped them both for caves and he went straight in...
