Help with a rescue that is cut a couple of times

I got a call from a guy that knows my family, and his ex-wife had let their son bring home a Rosy Boa. I guess it escaped from its tank during the night, and she found it in the morning and freaked out. Tried to kill it with a knife. Makes me so freaking mad So he asked me to take it in. And I did, the Rosy has 2 cuts on its back. Is there anything I can do to help the healing? I moved it to a clean tub in my quarenteen (sp?) rack, its tank that it came with was pretty yucky. I gave it a hide and am just letting him settle in right now. But is there anything I can do to help him more? I attached some pics to show the damage. Any thoughts would be great. If he seems to get worse I will take him to the vet. Thanks in advance.

Plain Triple antibiotic ointment and as little stress as possible is the best thing for it right now.

I'm not a vet, and believe that a vet would always be the best option, however, I will say that from here those cuts look fairly superficial. I would most likely keep the boa in a near-sterile environment, and monitor closely. A small dab of silver ointment might not hurt, either. If you feel even the slightest bit hesitant to handle this on your own, though, I would get in touch with a vet.

Thanks, I will get the ointment and dab a little on it after it has had a day or 2 to settle in. It just got here this evening. If anything causes any major concerns I will take it to the vet in a heart beat. I just know that the vet probably won't do to much for it other than rest and a clean setup. But I will take it if it needs it.

Unbelievable. I don't have any advice for you as I've never dealt with a snake stabbing, but this lady is insane!! Did she forget she let her son get the poor little guy? I just don't understand how you could do something like that. So irresponsible. Sorry. End rant.

Thankfully the cuts don't look too deep, hopefully he heals nicely for you. Of course, keep him clean, minimize stress, pretty much what the above posters recommended. I would also look into doing a betadine soak to prevent infection.

I don't have any advice, but I just wanted to say that poor snake is probably lucky to have gotten away with only those cuts. I'm glad he's in good hands now.

Yeah, I was really pissed when I heard about this, and then saw this snake. Poor thing. Glad she didn't kill him, and glad he is here now. I will never understand people who could do this to a pet that they know is in their house. Its not like the snake just showed up and she didn't know what it is. It has been in her home for atleast a couple of months. Just mind numbing what some people will do.

Please do not use any ointments like polysporin.

I'd suggest Betadine soaks. Silver sulfadiazine is a burn cream, so I don't think that would help much.

Keep her in a dry environment, on paper towels.

I actually know someone who will shoot any snake she sees on sight (has also apparently plugged some holes in a garden hose when her husband was pulling it through the grass and she thought it was a snake, too). This stems from a childhood trauma where her brother threw a garter down her shirt, and since it couldn't get out (her shirt was tucked in) it bit her several times before she could get it out, and has been afraid of them since. Granted that is an extreme case and most likely not the case with this woman, but things like that do happen. Not that I agree with the violence, just giving another point of view to look at. I do agree that she should have been prepared since she let him get it, though.

Oh my gosh! That's horrible! I'm shocked that the wounds weren't worse though for being so tiny and being attacked with a knife...
