How do i manage cypress mulch substrate?

Just recently i switched from paper towels to cypress mulch for my pastel. Whenever he made a mess I'd just replace the paper towel with new ones. Now what should i do to properly maintain the cypress mulch?

Just spot clean the urates and any poop as you see it... completely change substrate once a month while disinfecting the cage... unless it smells before that

Interesting, because this I did not know. Do you know which do that?

Granted when I used cypress mulch I bought the forest floor one.

The ones sold at the hardware stores(home depot, lowes, etc.) the pet store brands are fine if they are mixed it's usually with fir or coco husks.

It will usually say "Blend" somewhere on the bag. You could also contact the manufacturer with the UPC code or manufacturer part number and find out what is in it. I contacted the one that makes the stuff for Lowes, it's a mix of primarily pine plus other hardwoods, depending on what they happened to be cutting that week, and the hardwoods included black walnut.

MulchMfg.com and OhioMulch.com both sell pure cypress bagged mulch, but you either have to buy it from a local retailer or have it shipped in by the pallet, and not too many of us with snakes need 200 cubic feet of the stuff at once.
