55 gal too much?
i am hopefully getting my very first ball python soon, very first snake to be accurate. i was able to obtain a 55 gallon tempered glass tank with a locking screen top. it has a 18" by 36" footprint and is 17" tall. the guy who owned the tank before me has used it for snakes previously. Recently, i joined this forum to get some help setting everything up for my first snake and have been receiving much help on how to set it up but also some criticism on the size of the tank. some people have said that 55 gallons is too much to properly regulate the temperature/humidity in it. Then some other people disagreed with it and have said they have been fine with larger tanks like the one i have.
My plans for the tank are to have a CHE and a UTH to maintain the temperature, a relatively large water dish and i'm planning on covering a large section of the screen with tin foil to keep the moisture trapped in the tank. I am planning on setting everything up and running the equipment for a few days and making sure i can keep everything right before I even obtain the snake but am i setting myself up for failure or is it possible to have a snake in that large of a tank with proper preparation? please help. thank you.

I think the most important question here is how big the snake is.
I think a 55 gallon would probably be suitable for an adult BP as long as you have sufficient hides, however it would be much too big for a baby.

there is no upper limit.
provide several different hides at different places, and use fake plants or decoration to break lines of sight, and the python regius will like it.
they fear large and open spaces, but with several hides and fake plants and decoration you can have both, large and comfortable.

Make sure you clean the heck out of it prior to introducing your snake to eliminate potential illnesses and mites!

planning on picking up some unscented reptile tank cleaner from a pet store in the near future, will that be sufficient?

If it's the cleaner I'm thinking of, you can save yourself some money and use diluted bleach, then clean it with straight water a few times. You also might want to get some F10 disinfectant.
