Hi are they any breeders on here im looking to buy a first Chondro...looking for the most tame one out there I know the biaks are mean what would you suggest..Someone told me about a manokwari.. Thanks for the help..Richie Boo

I'll help you bump this to the top.

I've been thinking of getting a Chondro for a few years now and I just never have. I know they have so many different ones out there and all of that confused me so I never took the time to learn anything about them. On the other hand I've spoken to some people that keep them and breed them and from what I was told Biak's are probably your most ill tempered ones. All of the ones like Aru's, Meruake's are just different localities. I've personally come to prefer the High Yellow ones which I think may come from the base of Biaks. They took the higher colored ones and selectively bred them to get the ones that look like they do. This means more $$$. So I'll most likely stick with a meruake based on the price because I won't be breeding, and they have some decent temperament ones out there from what I've found.

Now while they aren't as nippy as others, this doesn't mean they should be handled. GTP's stress very easy and can get agitated quickly. If you find any breeders on here let me know because I'd like to keep my options open for owning one soon.

If you want a snake that you can handle often I do not recommend a chondro. They are not meant to be played with. We have over 100 chondros and 90% of them can be handled, most do not prefer it, but most CAN be handled. We do not handle them often, and when we do, we do not handle them for long periods of time. They are not boas or ball pythons. They are snakes that are meant to be observed and enjoyed. As a rule, males are less aggressive than females. And adults are less aggressive than juvies. Babies/neos (less than 12 months) should never ever be handled. Locales and bloodlines definately can play a part in temperament. As far as locales, as a rule, Arus/Sorongs are the most docile (not to say I have never met an aggressive one) and, as a rule, the biaks/wamenas tend to be more aggressive, although I have a male biak that is as nice as can be and recently sold an adult female biak that you could put around your neck and go mow the lawn. As far as bloodlines go, the dream line for example are all very nice, puppydog tame day or night. But designers you will be paying a higher pricetag.

All in all if you want docile, find an adult male (preferably an Aru or Sorong or Jaya....but some other locales may be just as docile) that the owner can vouch for their temperament. Good luck!
