GT500 1967 Shelby Mustang - Where are they all??
As the title says, I am browsing for my dream car which is the 1967 gt500 shelby mustang, however I can't find any! Being in the UK it's very difficult to get old Mustangs anyway without spending a fortune. The only ones I've found are at least 115K which quite frankly is too much lol.
Mustangs are apparently everywhere in the US, so I was hoping someone could shed some light on what has happened to all the 1967's?
I'm probably just going to end up with a mid 2000 gt500 as it's better than nothing but one day I want the 1967 version, if I can ever track one down that doesn't cost the earth!

Most are in Museums and/or private collections. What you CAN do is buy a mid 60's Mustang body/frame from FORD and build it yourself.

Mustangs may be all over the US, flat rock plant puts out over 300 a day, but they only made 2K 67 Shelby GT500s total. so it kinda rare. Then how many actually made it to the UK? The 115k one might of been one of the only ones over there.

You're not going to find one for less than 80K. Most of them are in then hand of people that know what they have. My suggestion would be to buy a 67 fastback junker and use "Yearone" and other places to build it back. Make it a Shelby Clone. I had a 66 GT350 back in the early 2000's and it was 35K for a needs restoring car.. Best of luck to ya.

Well that explains a lot. I didn't realise only 2k were made. Why do I have to pick such a rare and expensive car lol.
What do you think to buying a car in the US, having it done up over there and then importing it to the UK? The conversion rate means it would in theory save me money (depending when I do it) due to the $ to £ being so low most of the time.
It does seem a bit of a cop out pretending to have a car you actually don't lol. But I don't think I'm ever going to own a genuine 1967 shelby if they really are that expensive all over.

hey hey now, leave my fakearri alone.

Ferrari 250 GTO, only 39 made over 3 years. One sold for 35 million. It was a little out of my price range so I opted for the kit car instead.

Lol yeh. I mean over here I could probably get away with it because any Mustang is a rare sight in the UK, even the new ones.
There's a guy in the town I live in, which has turned his toyota mr2 into a ferrari lol. It looks like the real deal to the untrained eye and ears. Until you look at the tax disc and it says MR2 on it lol.

There is a local guy that drives a 67 GT500 as his daily driver...he gets notes on the windshield everywhere he goes. He doesn't restore it, just happy with it getting him from point A to point B. Seems like a waste to most, but he loves his car just the way it is.

Well the care is rare, the fact that it's a Shelby GT500. Then add the fact about the ones that were wrecked and all that. Most of the people who have them now aren't going to part with them unless a hefty offer is made, so 115k isn't bad. You may be able to find one cheaper in the US, but once you pay for the fees and to import the car I'd imagine you'd be just as close to that and that's without ever seeing the car in real life.

Well I'm glad he's enjoying it. My 1969 convertible is also a daily driver, on nice days, when it's not in the shop...
