Curious about Ball Pythons...first time owner!

As someone who has always owned either a dog or cat, I decided to try out a ball python. As I'm holding her ( I just assume she's a girl ) I begin to get curious about if my ball python has emotions? Is she capable of telling me apart from others? And do they care?
I read that a lot of snakes don't care however ball pythons tend to be one of the kinder breeds...so as an owner/breeder does anyone have feedback on this or do I just sound crazy, lol

Ball pythons aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. Most reptiles aren't simply because they lack the brain size. They definitely do have emotions, though. If you surprise your snake or they don't want to be held that day, they will definitely let you know. They also do learn to recognize your scent, or something close to it. You may notice after time that your girl is going to be calmer with you than with somebody she doesn't 'know'. Whether they like you or not is hard to say. They may just have finally realized that while you are a huge, threatening predator you're one that's for some reason not eating her and she's gotten to trust you to not eat her so she's going to be more relaxed.
