Anyone have any experience with Beauties?

I've been wanting a Vietnamese blue beauty since I've first seen one, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them. Anyone have any beauty snakes or old world rats? I've never owned one and am looking to build experience for the blue beauty, because I don't feel I'm ready yet. Any suggestions on what to get to get used to fast old worlds, or a good place to get started?

I personally have never had them, but just by doing some quick searching I'd recommend that you try to locate a captive born one. If you're not able to do that then I'd try to make sure if you're buying a wild caught one to make sure it's settled down.

Racers are fast and if you're wanting to get used to dealing with fast snakes then that's a perfect bet. I'd honestly say any of your rat snakes, racers, garters and that are generally fast when they want to be. Let me ask you a question though, why do you feel you're not ready? Do you mean it experience wise or knowledge wise or cage requirements?

I was always told old world rat snakes are tricky to care for because they're sensitive to changes or mistakes in husbandry, and the only colubrids I've had experience with we're corn snakes and garters. They were all pretty relaxed snakes too

They may be sensitive, but if I gave you any advice on that then I'd be lying to you. The best person I can honestly refer you to on this subject would be Skiploader. He's like a globe of information and I can almost guarantee you that he can give you the best care advice for them. If what you're saying about them being sensitive is true then they sound similar to the cribo. What that usually means is they don't do well with hot spots like ball pythons and other snakes where the hot spot is 88-92. Cribos apparently like the low 80's as the hot spot, and cool side in the 70's.

Here is a care sheet I found on a Taiwan Beauty Snake, though I can't validate the care sheet because I've never had the snakes, this kind of matches up to what you're saying you've been told about them being sensitive.

A thermal gradient of 28C / 82F hot end, 25C / 77F cool end, is required for the Taiwan Beauty Snake, with a relative humidity of 60-70%. This can be achieved by daily spraying and the addition of a large water bowl. Also a humid hide is beneficial to this species especially when approaching a slough. A night time drop can be given for sub-adult and adults of a few degrees. Hatchlings kept on heat mats will usually receive a night time drop as the ambient room temperature drops at night automatically dropping the temperature in the cooler end of their tub.

Again this is something I found so please do not take it for an accurate care guide on this species, but it does kind of make sense and the same case may be with your Vietnamese one. I'd say honestly to ask Skiploader though.

Anytime. Our goal on here is to provide the community with the best possible answers.

Just a random question, but have you ever dealt with or seen Rufous Beaked snakes?

    EDIT:
If not then look at the posts under General Colubrids that I've started. You'll see pictures and videos.
