In this case since it is a provincial law regarding these animals. So, there is little reasonable excuse for not knowing about it. And, a permit would have taken care of the whole mess this is a case of human idiocy pure and simple.
I think the law is as dumb as the day is long. Not because education or ability shouldn't be considered in who keeps these animals but, because the government as usual is inept at actually providing this service.

EDIT: Good thing I now own African Gartersnakes(at least that is what I am claiming they are) which so closely resemble Ball Pythons that they can interbreed. Because at this rate every python and boa will soon be illegal.

Ugh. Its gonna keep coming too. This kind of thing happens regularly all over north america, but the media is running with events that would normally not end up in the news. It's going to lead to a political fight which is going to lead to more news. I really hate the media.

I like how they target the "risk of infection" for the reason the be cautious about snakes.

My teacher is a Public Safety Officer, and she's more concerned about cats and dogs and their public health impact than the impact a few snakes might have on "safety" due to infection.

No kidding, well kept animals and a little basic hygiene make the risk insignificant.

Human mouths and cat mouths are more dangerous than snakes, and depending on where you live, both are more likely to bite you than snakes

At first I was wondering what that had to do with this.
After seeing it I can't say I'm unhappy to see this man out of business.
It is too bad they went straight to euthanasia instead of auctioning them to people that can keep them though.

I felt like crying. Those people were traveling through the area, the authorities stole the snakes and tore the children away, and probably killed the eggs not to mention the snakes. It will take years for those children to recover not to mention the parents. The family was traveling through the area not living there. The ignorant authorities totally ruined these peoples lives, for staying at a hotel. Dogs, pigs, cows, horses, and coco nuts are all more dangerous. You can definitely google that.

Ugh. Just saw both of the aforementioned stories on the news... I better buy my snakes while it's still legal

I think we need to get a snake expert, or team of experts, to give a public statement or two... it won't help that all the public sees is bad press.

For instance, I was really annoyed to hear that the snakes in the Brampton case were "living in deplorable conditions" because they were housed in plastic storage tubs... most people don't know that is considered standard housing for balls.
