    I have to celebrate!!

I am so excited! After seven failed weeks, my (almost) 1 year old ball python ate his first rat! I have been trying every feeding to get him to eat a rat. He has had f/t mice since he hatched. I really really didn't want to give him live, but this was going to be my last attempt of feeding him f/t rats before I tried a live one. I let it thaw in the same bag with a small mouse right above his habitat. I offered the rat first, but he didn't go for it. I then offered the mouse, and he took it at once. I gave him just a few minutes, and offered the rat again. He didn't take it again. Finally, I made a small cut in the side of the rat, left it in his habitat on the opposite end for a minute, and then offered it to him. He took it no problem! I am so proud of him! (And THRILLED I don't have to go to live!)

    Just had to brag...

That's awesome, congrats! I switched mine from mice to rats last night too, and I let the mouse and rat thaw together then rubbed the mouse on the rat, and she took it no problem. She seems to eat well though, I just got her a week ago, and she ate a mouse the day after I brought her home and she was in shed too, so I take it I don't have a problem eater.

Very nice! Its always a good thing when you can switch a "mouser" to a regular rat eater. F/T is just an added bonus. Congrats

Congrats! My girl is so frustrating...I got her back in March, didn't get her to eat until a full MONTH after I got her, and that was a live mouse. Then I got her eating really well on live mice so 2 feedings ago (not counting tonight) I offered her a F/K, which she took. Last feeding I offered a F/T mouse and she took it! I was STOKED! So tonight I figured I'd be really ambitious and offer a rat scented with a mouse. Yeah, no go. She was interested but she just didn't take it. Now I'm not sure what to do. I can continue feeding mice, continue trying to feed scented rats, or just keep on trying rats. IDK. Am I really more stubborn than my snake? I guess I'm going to have to be. Sigh...
