at the moment you are fine however when the law takes affect in 2014 you would need to get it permitted prior to it being 12 foot in order to avoid any further legalities. Unless they change crap again! also if you need further explanation you can google ohio sb310 you will find not only the legal document but it will pop up countless forum threads about it.

Even with the snake being grandfathered in, it just means you are allowed to get it permited. But permits will still be required - and last I checked it also required a hefty insurance for "giant constrictors" to be kept. But I haven't kept up enough with Ohio laws to know for sure. Unfortunately, much like Florida, and New York, Ohio is one of the states I can not / will not sell a retic to due to legality.

Yes you certainly will need permits, insurance, and I believe they will need to be micro chipped unless they have changed it again. like I said for full details and understanding read up on the ohio sb-310. I dont have any tics because of all this bs. i'm waiting until the dust settles before making my decision to get some. I want SD's though so I may not have any problems.

As long as they do not NAME reticulated pythons on a list in the final law and keep it vague with a 4m or 12' whatever law, then you should be fine. Heck 12' you can keep a male retic under that pretty easily. Most stay around that size, but have the potential to pass it up. . . Then again, I keep thinking my purple girl is done growing and she continues to put on the length instead of weight at just over 10' . . . but she's Jampea (62.5%).
