Look what I found in my boas water

I found these little worm looking things in my hypo salmon red tail's water. I don't know what they are and I never have seen them. There was no poop in the water dish. And the water wasn't an off color. I looked in the bedding and could not find any trace of these strange looking things. I plan to take him to the vet ASAP but I would get better sleep if I at least new what this is. PLEASE HELP!

Look what I found in my boas water

Are they living and moving or dead? It looks like some kind of larve. What kind of bedding are you using?

When was the last time you cleaned the water bowl? Has the water been in there for awhile?
If nothing ever changed, there would be no butterflies.

Almost look like mosquito larvae. Are they squirming around?

Re: Look what I found in my boas water

I just got back from a weeks vacation and my friend said he never changed the water. So yes the water has been sitting there for a while > and they were all dead. Not moving at all

I really wouldn't freak out. Obviously a vet visit doesn't really hurt, but stagnant water attracts insects, but they're not going to hurt anything as long as you clean them out. Any dangerous parasites to snakes are invisible at that stage. So, gross, but not vet visit worthy, IMO.

Re: Look what I found in my boas water

Those Exo-Terra dishes are a real pain get clean around those little stairs on the side but that gunk will come off with a bit of elbow grease (wash, disinfecting, running it through a dishwasher, then re-rinsing any potential soap residue is the easiest, if that's an option.) I started off with that same kind of water dish actually (solely because it looked nice) but it wasn't worth the hassle. Now I just use one of those square glass Pyrex dishes and its much much easier - heavy enough not to be dumped and cleans in a flash. Sorry I'm no help in identifying those little larvae looking things - Ive never come across something like that before; hopefully they aren't something too major...
