Second Best To A Burm?/Largest rateater?

What snake out there is a lot like a Burmese python? Like, in terms of the prehistoric saddled/blotched pattern, the impressive strength and size, same shaped head, and the same placid behavior? Of course, since I'm not into monsterous snakes, something that doesn't get to behemoth proportions would be great. And something with a whole lot less regulations would be nice. The snake that HSUS said people would switch to, if you will. Would you think Sumatran/Borneo short tails fit the description? (Anyone got epics of any with a lot of saddles like a burm has?)

Another subject close to this one, what's the largest boid species one could own and still maintain it on rats? (Albeit XXL/Jumbo rats) I'm thinking along the lines of scrub, olive, blood, carpet, boa constrictor, ect.
