African rock python supposedly strangled two boys, age 5 and 7, fallout for BPs?

    http://globalnews.ca/news/762560/esc...new-brunswick/

I know, dear moderators, that you moved the earlier thread into "General Herp >> Herp Broadcast".

But i also know that this incident is so huge that all people here need to be informed, and i know most BP enthusiasts only read the forum section about BPs and dont visit "General Herp >> Herp Broadcast".

Also, this thread should be about the fallout of the event, and specifically the impact it could have on ball pythons.

To discuss the specific event, go to the thread:
    http://ball-pythons.net/forums/showt...-in-Boa-Attack

discuss specifically how it affects ball python keeping and ownership here. Everything else in the other thread. And dear moderators, leave this thread here.... This forum needs to brainstorm, think, strategize, the stakes are too high to allow people that are ONLY interested in BPs to miss this and not get involved. So dont move this thread. The other thread is to discuss the event that occured, this thread is to discuss its influence on ball python keeping (and to highlight the other thread).

If you press the "home" button it shows you all the new postings in all categories. You mess up future searches in the proper category when you place a topic in the wrong one.

oh.... i never used the home button. I mean NEVER, i am positive about that. i go here, glance over site general, then look at the BP category.

    i never clicked it.

And this is not in the wrong category because it is intended to inform ball python geeks that are strictly interested in ball pythons, and it is also about the impact this incident will have strictly on ball python keeping and breeding. This thread is intended for the ball python angle on this topic, for anything about this nasty story that is not related to ball pythons use the original thread.

I understand what you are thinking but I don't think most users stay in one category.

I would bet most use the home button out what's new button to check out what is currently going on in the entire forum and then may venture off into other specific selections.

There is way to many great threads happening forum wide to stay in only one.

African rock python supposedly strangled two boys, age 5 and 7, fallout for BPs?

It just fell through the ceiling and the kids didn't wake up and turn on the lights or anything...? And after the snake fell it smelled humans and decided they'd be a good snack..? Somethings not adding up here...

I do believe we're going to see ball and Angolan python related fallout- both snakes are from Africa. Some news sources state that it was just an African python and would post a pic of a ball python. One video had a spider ball python in it. Not good for the ball python industry. Due to the lack of ownership, Angolan pythons are at great risk too.

I agree. I stated on the other thread that there will be a knee-jerk reaction to anything containing the word "python" as a result of this incident, whatever the cause. Reptile keeping in general has often suffered image problems from the actions of a few ignorant and irresponsible people, and it probably always will. Too bad the general public is so uninformed and ignorant about reptile keeping, and too bad an irresponsible keeper affects all of us by their actions, (or inaction). Whatever the cause it's a sad tragedy for the family.

Interesting post Slitherous, almost identical to a current gun owner.

I believe the key word here is Ignorance.

    absolutely on-topic...

im mirroring this poll from the big, original thread

    Everyone vote! No account required.

    http://ottawa.ctvnews.ca/community/poll-results
the question is: Should the City of Ottawa ban all exotic snakes? Yes or No.

And "yes" is leading. First signs of fallout for the ball python community. Do we have BP-keepers from Ottawa here? Damn this is really bad. Go there and vote.
