    Rex questions (pic heavy)

Ok so I just had my first litter from my double Rex cinnamon agouti dumbo, she was bred to my Himalayan guy. 6 fat healthy babies, although one had an umbilical hernia, but he's doing just fine. They're about 15 days old now, and from what I've been reading, the babies should be getting some curl in their fur, at the very least have some curly whiskers. It looks like they all have straight whiskers.

Can any of you rex breeders chime in? All the babies should be Rex since mom was a double, right? Is she just a poor quality Rex, or is there something else going on?

    Just dad:

    Teh babies!!!

    Thanks!

The babies look standard coat to me too. Even poor quality Rex will have curly whiskers. And yes, a Double Rex will have all Rex babies when bred to a standard coat.

Is mom really a Double Rex? It could be that she's recessive hairless instead, meaning all her babies are Het hairless.

That possibility has crossed my mind, but mom has quite a bit of fur on her face. I would think a true hairless would be... Well, hairless lol. The lady I got her from seemed to know her rats. I know she has pedigrees and such on many of them (not this mama though). Oh well, I've got 5 males, guess one of them is going back to mom!

Oh jeeze. Then how the heck am I supposed to figure out what I have!? Lol. I can't wait til my other Rex or hairless or whatever grow up. I have one that I know for sure is a hairless, her coat is a lot rougher than my 'rex' girls and is the same very short length all over. I have another that is for sure a double Rex, but all of them are too young Ugh I'm so impatient. Oh well, at least they get to size a lot faster than balls.

They are definitely standard so it does bring what the mom is into question. She looks double Rex but obviously that's is not the case, I have no idea how recessive hairless look tho. I really don't want to run out to the shed at 2am so hope you don't mind this bad picture from a few yours ago, you can still make out what the coat should look like at that age. I can try to find a similar aged baby for a pic tomorrow.

Maybe hold back a son and breed to mom and see if it hairless? Although I have no idea what else it could be.

Ooh I love your babies! Wanna trade? Lol just kidding. I love my kiddos. Maybe mom has mange? Haha I figure she has to be hairless or some super weird strain of d-Rex. Her sister should be dropping a litter soon, so we'll see what I get out of her. Although I'm not going to hold my breath for any Rex babies after the results of this litter

Lol, that picture is over 4 years old I believe. The Burmese (Stardust) was my holdback and died winter before last. :' ( I still have her son and many granderatties tho. I don't have babies that same age currently but I have younger and older. I am swamped on Sundays but I will try to get pics of very young Rex to give you an idea of what your looking for soon.

Aww sorry about Stardust . And no need to go out of your way for pics, thats what google is for! Sunday is my cleaning/feeding/get everything done day too. I've been poring over pics online, and my babies don't look like any Rex I've seen. One of my males is already spoken for by my mother in law, so I'll breed him back to mom when the time comes to figure out what the heck is going on
