    Feeding.

I have only fed my ball python once since I got him, which was the 20th of last month. I tried to get him out today to feed him in his separate cage. I took his hide off of him an when I went to pick him up he would tense up and move his body away from my fingers. I don't know if it's because he was shedding 2 days ago an still has a lil still left on his body or I just startled him by picking up his hide. Should I just see if he will eat without taking him out or what?

I would wait to handle for enjoyment until he's eating three times for you: I like to get my snakes established before messing with them.

He could have been surprised when you reached in to get him: I would feed inside the enclosure as it's a lot less stressful on the snake. He won't get "cage aggressive"

    Re: Feeding.

Remember BP's are ambush predators. I know mine are hunting and hungry when they're in their cool side hides with their nose barely poking out; they've digested their last meal, moved off the hot spot, and are waiting for a tasty rodent to wander by. When you remove the hide and put the snake into a feeding tank where it feels totally exposed, it's not going to want to eat.
