Orange Thing Project Update

I wish I had more to update than pictures, but the orange thing mom didn't lay this year I know I have a couple people on here that believe in the project so I figured I post some pics. It's still not proven hence the quotes, but I held back two females I think are hets.

First up, the "Orange Thing" with his siblings (mostly just half siblings)

The sire is the uglier pastel on the top left. His daughters are the two on the bottom. I believe the uglier pastel female on the bottom left is a het orange thing since she looks so much like her sire and she was hatched pretty orange.

This is dam and sire to the Orange Thing when they were babies. They had a lot of orange when they were babies! They were out of a female from Africa who throws weird babies, I took on the project to see where it would lead. So far I haven't given up

Thank you I think he's a pretty good looking snake. Hopefully this project will prove out!

Looking at the "thing's" baby pics, I looked around several breeder sites that have orange worms and I just don't see a difference. Do you know besides the obvious (color) if there is another way to identify the morph? I would like to also know if this proves out for you. That would be such a cool "diamond in the rough".

I just picked up a ball python baby from Petsmart (she was on sale so I couldn't help myself ) but anyway she looks very similar to your "things". She has orange flames and also some pretty washed out whites along side the orange. I was thinking she was some kind of dinker ball. I cant wait to see what you can prove out with yours! Good Luck!

The orange thing is pretty easy because the color is so intense as a hatchling and stays intense for a good year. He also has orange blushing on his back and just a little bit of head fading.


This is how intense he was, his black was jet black, and his face was really dark, almost jet black

The hets all seem to have tracks, mom does too. I sold the males with tracks because I really don't need them, but here is a picture of my "het orange thing" female


I was concerned about this female possibly being a het orange, but she's not the right color of orange, has a head stamp, and a normal belly





Of course you have to take this all with a grain of salt, because it's unproven. Hopefully I'll get some more Orange Things next year I did take him to the Iowa Herp Expo to show him off a bit and I had a lot of people stop and ask me what he was.

I really hope this works out and you get more and more orange each year. When I first got interested in ball pythons, I looked around and was disappointed there were no ORANGE morphs! I'll be watching the progress of Orange Thing and his descendants eagerly!
