    Breeder rats/Holdbacks/Cool looking rats

I wasn't sure what to put as the title. These are our breeders whom I've messed with the genetics. Some have names, most don't. But if they really stick in my head, they have a name. Bear with the pictures, they were a last minute impulsive decision made in the rat shed.

    Orange hood

    Bright Orange Dumbo

    Solid Blue

This girl is really neat! She isn't a blue, but she isn't a brown. She's a mix between! I love how she looks!

My Paradox rat, hard to get a pic of her, she wouldn't stay still.

    Blurry frontal view.

This is one of the high white sides I've been messing with. It started with black, now I have cream, and brown also.

Black high white, with her babies.

This little guy is a first and a hold back. Super cute!

This is Splinter! He is the biggest, and ugliest rat we have. He got his name because I seriously think he looks like a sewer rat lol!

    My hand for comparison!

    Blue Hooded Dumbo

Siamese, couldn't get a good pic of her.

This is Ghost, I call her a Hypo. If you look closely, she has a very dull pattern. I produced a few more that look like her too.

    My Pregger Orange Dumbo

    Wide Striped Cream Dumbo

And one of my favorite sweethearts. Brown Dumbo.

So that's it. I have noticed that blues seem to handle pregnancy the hardest. Not sure if it has to do with the genetics with them being blue. I haven't really looked into it. But we've lost quite a few blue girls after giving birth or a few months later. If anyone has any insight to it, I've love to hear it.

    Thanks for looking.

    -Kristen

I've had same with some blues. Upon some research ive seen it could have to do with bleeding although externally i havent noticed that. Great pictures btw.

    Re: Breeder rats/Holdbacks/Cool looking rats

Adorable rats! As some one who was into the pet rat breeding fancy, I can tell you the actual terms for your cuties! The oranges are fawns, the 'high whites' appear to be veriberks, and that brown girl is agouti. Ghost is interesting to me because she looks like a rat I had and couldn't figure out the coloring for. She is either pearl or platinum, I believe. I am completely jealous of your American blues (the blues you have), I only have Russian blues and Am. blues are harder to find in my area. The blue that you mentioned that is somewhere between blue and brown is likely mink. Mink comes in many shades, and some come with a very blue-ish tone that is easy to mistake for blue. Which is why I steer clear of them xD Feeders or pets, I try to keep my blues pure because I have been tricked before by some very convincing minks xD

Oh I love them all! You have some awesome rats! I just got my hands on some low quality Siamese, but I'm pretty excited none the less! We don't have any fun rat colors/patterns around here

    Thank you!

Thanks Everyone! And thank you Sar for the actual names! I can't believe all those colors all started from 10 rats we had. A lot of them came from 2 rats. A Cream dumbo (Peanut) who we still have. And Pineapple, an albino who passed away last summer. It's so hard for me to decide who gets fed and who stays I always want to keep them all because they're all soooooo cute as babies. Except Splinter, he somehow avoided being a meal, and now he's just part of the rat colony family for life lol . And hubby always gets mad at me when he goes to pick out who's getting knocked out (Co2) because I'm always picking through all of them. I have so many more cool colors, but these guys were my fav.

Another thing I've noticed is my creams have a wobble. Peanut has it and I guess passed it along to the offspring. But it's only the creams who get it. I thought that was interesting also.
