Paranoid parent in need of help!
I adopted a ball python with a cataract on his eye about three weeks ago, he's about a few months old. I have him housed in a twenty gallon on EcoEarth, with a heat lamp and UTH to keep the temperatures up, two hides, and a shallow but wide water dish for him to soak in (humidity hovers between fifty to sixty five). I fed him after the second week, and he took the food immediately. I attempted another feed five days after, because he seemed a bit malnourished when I got him, but he didn't take to it, something I know is fairly common. He began showing signs of a shed, and sure enough, the next day I looked in, and there were bits of shed hanging from everything. I bumped the humidity up to around seventy five to help the shed along, but no luck. I bathed him today to help with his stubborn skin, but when I pulled him out I noticed him snuffling a bit, I pried open his mouth to have a look, but there was no discolouration or excess mucous. Is it an RI? Should I take him to the herp vet in my area, or wait and try a few home remedies first? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for the long post, I ramble when I'm worried!

What are your hot spot and ambient temps, and how are you measuring them (analog thermometer, digital, IR?). Could you post a pic of the cataract eye, as well as his body? He may just be having a crummy shed, which wouldn't be unheard of considering the conditions he came from (am reading into your post a bit and interpreting adopted as rescued), and some will go off food at shed time. The fact that you got him to eat the first time is good, it sounds like you've got a decent set-up, and this is a good community, welcome!

Re: Paranoid parent in need of help!
Thank you, it's nice to be here! Hot spot temp is around ninety, ambient temps run anywhere from eighty seven to eighty two in the rest of the cage, and I keep the house at seventy eight year round, I'm measuring with an analog right now, but once I have the money I'd like to start looking into an IR, I've heard they give more accurate readings! I'll post some pictures tonight, I don't want to pester him too much, especially because I think he might also be retaining his eye caps, and I don't want to stress him out unnecessarily. It looks like the remainder of his shed is about to come off, but it's strange because he's shed completely on his underside, it's just the top of his body that the shed won't come off, I've provided him some rougher surfaces to rub against, but I think he might be having difficulty trying to rub the rest of the shed off, should I try the trick with the damp pillowcase? Will that aggravate his "maybe-RI"? Thank you for your help!
