What is the average/typical age that bp's shed for the first time? Mine is about 4-5 months old

Baby Bp's shed within about a week of hatching, and then usually every 4-6 weeks or so. Adults can go much longer in between sheds, but when they are little and growing like weeds, they shed often. If your snake is 4-5months old, he should have / has gone through quite a few sheds since hatching.

From what I know its already had its FIRST shed. They take place soon after they hatch. As they age they shed less frequently as their growth rate slows. Unless you misspoke... Is this your first BP? I can share w/you my experience and how I handle my girl's sheds if you're interested.

Very cool! It seems like there are a lot of reptile enthusiasts in melbourne, not so much here in central brevard though.

I've only had her for a month. My ex said he's never seen her shed and he had her two months before I adopted her from him for various reasons, but I can guarantee he knows nothing about snakes and taking care of them. Anyway that a whole other soap box. I was just trying to figure out if toke maybe getting ready to shed since her eyes aren't bule or cloudy and she's eating five I guess not yet although she is hiding a LOT MORE in the last 3days or so.

They shed more the more you feed them. You may need to feed the snake more often or offer larger prey. BPs typically shed once a month when they are young. You should see the lump from the prey item in the snakes belly if you don't, feed the snake a larger prey.

She's still on frozen thawed rat pups....maybe time to step up to 2!!

She might eat straight through her shed... I will not offer my girl food while in blue but have the day I noticed her eyes cleared up and she ate even during the shedding process. Previous owner prob didn't pay close enough attention, I have trouble believing a growing snake that age would go so long with no shed. Maybe he didn't know what to look for and disregarded old dried up ball of skin as fecal matter? At any rate keep us posted, you're at the right place. This community is GREAT!
