Normal or Yellow Belly?

I just picked this tiny guy up as a rescue on Thursday. He's an import and he was given to me for free because he wouldn't eat for the owner and she didn't want to bother with trying to assist feed him. She said that if I didn't take him then he's going in the freezer so I happily took him home to see what I could do with him. She said he was a yellow belly but I'm just not so sure. I do see some flames but the pattern doesn't look like my other yellow bellies so I'm leaning more towards normal. He did take his first meal for me last night with a little bit of help so I do have hope that he can pull through for me. I'll get some belly shots once his food has settled some.

Kudos to you for rescuing the lil one, you need to post belly pics to really tell if its a YB.

Glad you took him in and got him to eat. No idea if its a YB though, so hopefully once you take belly pics somebody else can chime in.

Even if he is a yellow belly I don't have any future breeding plans for him but once he's nice and healthy again I might try to find him a new home. For now he'll be staying here with me until he's fat and happy.

I see some flames, some blushing and a clear belly but not the head spot I usually see on YB's.
It just doesn't look the same as the YB's I am familiar with but, in you have a little girl snake there personally I'd be tempted to throw an Ivory Pastel male at her if flames and blushing are your thing.
Once it is on a steady feed, up to size and determined to be otherwise healthy.

I would agree with you but then again I was taught to not even fillet a fish without smacking it in the temple fast and hard with a hammer first and remove the head quickly to sever the spinal cord so that they aren't filleted alive. Most people just fillet them alive without thinking twice about it. I suppose it's the same with breeders. Each one has their own way of doing things. I don't have to agree with it or like it but if someone leaves me a mess, I'm not going to just leave it lay there. I personally didn't want to see him go into a freezer without someone even trying to assist feed him.

In my opinion, if you are breeding them, they're your responsibility to try anything and everything within reason before giving up. I can see that some breeders have too many animals to bother with a few that won't eat on their own or needs special attention, but that's really not the animals fault nor should it be their problem. It should not be used as a forgivable excuse. If she knew she wasn't going to bother, she should have let him go to a new home a long time ago before he got this bad. If you have tried everything you could, then I would say it would be appropriate to put them out of their misery, NOT let them lay there and just starve half to death first and only then decide to stick them in a freezer.
