Moss for humid hides

How do you know or how often should you change moss when using a humid hide? Is green moss the best to use?

I think most people use sphagnum moss for humid hides. As for when to change it, old/bad substrate has a pretty distinctive look to it (at least to me) if the snake pees/poops on it, or when it starts to look grimy it's time to change it. I don't have much experience with mosses due to living in such a humid area (the humidity here today was over 90%!) so I can't give you a time frame but I'm sure other people will chime in.

If any of the moss gets snake waste on it I just toss that part. The rest of the moss can be cleaned a few times. As I throw some out I will add more so its kinda like a revolving door for me.

They sell moss in a brick similar to the Eco Earth thing as well, or at least they used to and it's cost efficient because of how much you get for the price. You can use the moss for a humid hide, but be careful how humid, and I'd check on the moss often because dampness tends to make a snake defecate, especially if it's warm. If you see anything on it, throw it away, and you can soak the moss in hot water to kill bacteria and that gives you a reason to switch out with fresh moss, and you can do that back and forth for a few times.
