    What's your female breeding schedule

Hey all. I have 4 females total. Two of them just laid in the last month. Both will probably gain enough weight back by January (which is when I start pairing). The question is, if I pair them up again in January is that enough time to recover? I am just concerned about their overall health and well being. I don't want to "overbreed." What kind of schedules do you guys go with? Every season or every other season? Thanks.

Our girls drop eggs between May and late July. We start pairing in October.

This is pretty much the schedule that we use...

Yep, same here. They generally gain all their weight back in that time and then some.

I don't really have a schedule, I start pairing again when they have regained all the weight that they were prior to the previous season + some, and when at least 6 months went by since laying.

when they recover to a good weight, I'll start ultrasounding them to see where they are with their follicle growth. I don't need to put a male in with a female until her follicles are between 12 and 15 mm. I'll sometimes place a male in with a female to try and stimulate her growth, if he's not being used much.

Thanks everyone for the great insight. Sounds like they'll be able to go again this winter.

Interesting. What can one expect to pay for a small ultrasound machine?

nice topic, i have the same question. I paired from mid october to april . My last girl still didn t lay... it s probably due to the temperature here : my room was at 18/21Celsius until late march with heating pad for hot point at 31 and area temperature between 25/27.

Let say my last girl will lay around august 5 th , she is a very agressive eater so i imagine she will put her weight back within 3 months ( my other girl laid july 14th was 1700gr before laying, 1090gr after and she is today sitting on 1680gr, she is a average good eater usually ... but become a crazy one since the day after laying!) if i wait for six month it might be a little late to start pairing.... I was thinking to start pairing the other girls in mid october except those 2 starting in january.

It will be good to have the expertise of a large breeder on this question. And from people who lives in cold area. My winter last 5 months at -10 to -20 degree celsius.

    thanks for all input
