So I waned to try aspen with one of my bps and did some research on aspen and found that some of the mall pieces can get shoved in between the scales. My question is have any of u that use aspen had that happen before?

I was using aspen, but switched to cypress mulch. It holds the humidity much better and it's cheaper!

That does sound weird. I guess that could happen, but it would be super uncommon. Getting a needle between their scales and through their skin is pretty hard. They have very tough skin. My hatchlings get aspen and sometimes my adult females get aspen and I haven't had any issues with it.

    aspen question

I see that frequently. I use sani chips they are quite sharp little squares. In the last 4 months I have had to remove a handful of chips under scales keel scales in every case I thought to give sani chips a try over coco coir when after many years I had a fleck under a scale. The aspen sani chips proved to be far worse. I am switching back as soon as the last bag is gone.

I just checked my big girl to see if there was one. There sort of was, this is just under a scale but mine sometimes get chips fully under a scale. I usually hold the snake under tepid water stream and pinch the scale so it opens a bit and allow water to wash it free.
