Reputable Snake Breeder
I was wondering if anyone knows a well-known breeder who has healthy, well tempered snakes. I recently lost one of mine and I wanted to know if there were any good breeders that anyone could recommend in case I decided to get a new one. Thanks for your help

Your info shows you are in MD. Where abouts? Baltimore area, DC area? There are a lot of breeders in your state. Many you can meet at the Reptile Expos in these two areas.
check out this link for show locations and dates: http://www.mdreptilefarm.com/shows/

Re: Reputable Snake Breeder
You claim you just euthanized a snake due to IBD.
Before you buy another one, you better be sure that this was not the case.

Re: Reputable Snake Breeder
Well I guess that's one way to find out if a breeder is reputable: tell him you had a snake with IBD euth'ed in the last few days. If he refuses to sell you a snake, he's reputable.

What would be an appropriate wait/decontamination time before bringing in new animals if IBD was really present? 1 year minimum? More? Never?

They have many reputable breeders, again if you believe your snake died of IBD then I wouldn't make 100% sure that was the problem.

The only thing she can do is wait it out.
I believe she didn't have a necropsy done.

I've read several articles that state a year, though my google-fu is now failing me. Since corn, milk, king, garter, etc. snakes don't seem to get IBD I would get one of them if I wanted to keep a snake as a pet, and avoid boas and pythons. Also, for pets I prefer my king snakes over my ball pythons as they're more active during the day, easier to keep, and they're voracious eaters.
