    Moonlighting-should I do it?

So I'm currently setting up two stacked AP cages for my two BPs. I'm big on the display and aesthetics of their enclosures, so I'm installing some very low profile 12k spectrum aquarium LEDs in their cages for the lighting effect I want.

The company also sells moon lighting, and I figure that for $100 or so and an extra hour's work plus adding an additional timer, I could set up some moon lighting to observe them a little by night.

Would you do it? Considering how much I spent on the BPs the money wouldn't normally be an issue, but I loaned a friend some cash and I'm broke-ish.

The lighting in general is going to be very subdued, and I don't think the moon lights should bother the pythons as they are meant to simulate the real moon, and they don't bother fish.

Thoughts? As always, thanks for your input!

Yes, for sure I would! However, can't you wait till you have the cash?

I would say that as long as the light is not bothering them to the point that they wont leave their hides, making the light fixtures useless to begin with IMHO, because they feel insecure. If they seem happy and moving about, then by all means do it. Congrats on your new aditions. In the end you can do what you like best. I hope for the best and that this helps at all.

Nice! Yeah, I think I'm gonna do it. I'm going to avoid the blue atinic look though because one of my snakes is very yellow and I think it'll make it look washy-green.

Going with these guys, because they're modular/expandable, in the 12k flavor:

Hah. Well it just seems easier to install them when I'm actually assembling the cage this weekend. And I know it's going to annoy me having them incomplete to the point where it's worth paying the credit card fee on the price. I'm crazy ocd about this stuff, and I'll be annoyed if I don't have closure.

    1. Annarose, they look really nice.

    2. dkspftw, Do it!

    3. I think Gio has moonlighting in his enclosures and they look good as well. I think he has recent pics in the boa forum somewhere.

    4. When I get new enclosures, I think this will be something I add as well. Rope lights might work as well. I have a set of blue ones in my bedroom. hmmm. Something to look into. This is a great looking idea.

Sorry I'm just responding now, haven't really been on the forums in a week or so.

I already ordered them and had them come in, and I've installed them in my new AP cage. It looks great, and I'll post pics once I've got it all set up.

I would recommend avoiding the rope lights, Pyrate. I've put similar ones in my large swamp enclosure (removing them this week as I install the above linked moonlights in there too) and the problem is that they're omnidirectional. So it's not like there's (in this case blue) spotlights illustrating everything below, there's just a blue glow coming from the top of the tank. So it actually makes it more difficult to see the stuff in the tank because the bright blue at the top makes everything else look comparatively dark. So unless you want a colorful glow at the top of a really pitch black tank, I'd recommend against.
