Is it ok to put plants in with your snake?

Like to know if there is any kind of plants that is not harmful to snakes? I've been wanting to put some kind of orchid's. I'am still in the process in getting my checklist finish and one thing I'll like to have is a plant.

I've actually been wondering the same thing. My snake is a fatty and would most likely smother the plant.

Yes, my local Petco has animal safe plants but not all locations carry them. You can order them online.

All the plants in my substrate are real. My ball is very gentle on them but my gtp is a pain and constantly digs them up.

Do they stay in their own little pots? I use red aspen, do you think it would work?

They come in a small plastic basket with gaps in it that allows the roots to grow out and into the substrate. They are potted in a foam like material that holds water. I leave them in it and plant it directly in the substrate. I'm just careful when I take them out so the roots come with them.

I'm not real sure what kind they are. The tag they come with only has care instructions, no name. At Petco they are about two or three bucks. At my Petco they are in the reptile area. Not all stores carry them I've been told.

You can also buy terrarium plants from several places online. Check these out http://www.joshsfrogs.com/live-terrarium-plants-1.html

LLL Reptile has a nice list of non-toxic plants: http://lllreptile.com/info/library/c...our-terrarium/

The only thing is a snake will probably crush them, especially delicate orchids (though I totally think they would look very pretty in a terrarium for a bp). I got one of those realistic looking orchid on a fake log (I think ZooMed made it) and Loki smashed that thing the first night (and he was barely 300g). It made it quite a while since I could go in there each morning and move the bendy/wirey leaves back into place but eventually even those started to get small tears in them.

    1.0 "Leonidas" (Betta)
