Laws in California
lets discuss the laws and regulations in California. What ones do you like/dislike? Why? I am curious.

Re: Laws in California
I dislike the animal restrictions. Especially the unreasonable ones.
Department Fish and Game restrict many nonnative species that are common pets in other states. (ASFs, Hedgehogs, domesticated ferrets, sugar gliders, fennec foxes, domesticated skunks, etc etc). However, they allow hybrid cats (savannahs/Bengals) and dogs(wolf dogs) down to the F1 generation that could do a lot more damage to local wildlife and environment than any of the other restricted species.
The hypocrisy is just astounding considering there are no records of some of the restricted species ever colonizing and becoming a trouble animal to local areas. And a lot of these animals are sterile when sold.
I.E. domesticated ferrets have never been seen in history to ever go feral and 90% of them in the US are spayed/neutered. 100% of pet store ferrets are sterilized.(Also, if an intact female gets out, she will die if she doesn't breed. Its called A plastic Anemia. What are the chances of her finding an intact male to breed? Close to zip) The president of the Fish and Game committee hates some of these animals and is spiting facts due to a personal grudge. So he won't pass any legislation to legalize anything no matter how wrong he is.
With that said. The restrictions don't really hold much meaning these days. Police wont get involved unless they're there for a more severe reason. Most cops or general public don't even know some of these animals are illegal due to them being so common or just don't care. I can't tell you how many ASFs, ferrets, sugar gliders, and hedge hogs I've seen in CA. Not to mention their supplies being sold at all Petcos/Pet smart. I know for a fact that CA has the highest population of ferrets in the country. That's saying something there.

I couldn't agree more. I would love to have a hedgehog but yeah, I'm not one for breaking laws.
I'll tell ya though, you think these laws are bad? Try being in the firearms business in Commifornia right now.

Not so bad if you already had one, you couldn't find a decent gun in any of the shops around me and the back order list was hell-ish, as far as starting one yea it's rough. i'm not complaining too much about the animal laws since it's pretty laxed on the reptile laws but I do wish native species were not as restricted.

One of the main problems about knowing all the Ca. laws is that they come from so many places. State, county, city, even private communities all have their own which may or may not be the same.
Best to just check while being discreet. DO NOT clean your boa cages in your front yard.
I may not be very smart, but what if I am?
